Jupiter In Sagittarius 2018 – 2019: Believe It Until It’s True

Well, well, well. If it ain’t Big Ol’ Jupe swagger-daggering back into his happy place of optimistic rainbows, living on a dime and a prayer and out of a suitcase, armchair philosophizing, and telling everyone else why they’re wrong.
Jupiter coming home to the sign that it rules is, generally speaking, cause to celebrate, and perhaps most of all because Jupiter prefers to be festive when he can. That doesn’t mean this blog post won’t contain a few cautionary footnotes (what did you think this was gonna be, Oprah handing out free swag to everyone in the audience?). But after a year of intense reckoning, muckraking through the dirt and exposing the fuck out of everyone during its time in Scorpio, Jupiter is coming up for air and shooting some arrows into the sky in a fit of inspiration and levity.
Jupiter is much more comfortable on its home turf, because the impetus of Jupiter is to expand and to think in big, visionary, optimistic strokes — something that adventurous and restless Sagittarius is really good at.
Jupiter in Sagittarius won’t make everything suddenly amazing with no effort of our own, but it will very well lift our spirits and expand our sense of what’s possible, and we all know that being able to visualize things almost always comes before being able to actualize them. Jupiter in Sag will also offer an opportunity to pursue greater knowledge of the world, venture away from familiar territory, and in a sense, expand our notion of what’s “true.”
People sometimes misconstrue Jupiter as being a “lucky” planet, which is true to some degree, but it’s actually more accurate to say that Jupiter is a bloated planet — magnifying shady abuses (as we saw with Jupiter in Scorpio) as well as blowing up our sense of optimism. Luckily, Jupiter in Sag tends toward the latter, but Jupiter also always brings “more,” regardless of whether we’re ready to handle it or not.
What would this look like in the sign of Sagittarius? Biting off more than we can chew, overcommitting to things we’re genuinely excited about, an economic bubble, an emotional bubble, and more dogma, if that’s even possible — more preachers and teachers and not enough genuine students. The shadow side of Sagittarius is ideological zealotry and self-righteousness, because those fiery, well-read centaurs sure love a good debate. The trick is to be able to listen as much you speak, but we all know that’s easier said than done when no one around you is capable of holding their horses.
From an economic standpoint, it’s possible that this period will coincide with its own version of “too good to be true.”
Last time Jupiter was in Sagittarius was between November 2006 and December 2007 — the bubble that led up to the crash that came during Jupiter’s tour through sobering Capricorn. I actually came across a pretty prescient blog post while researching historical trends that was written during Jupiter’s last transit through Sagittarius, which surmised that “this could be the last year of stock market gains before the major reality check of Pluto entering Capricorn in 2008.” Basically, there’s this thing called the Fear and Greed Index, meaning investors are usually operating from a place of fear (when it’s low) and greed (when it’s high).
Most of us realize that the stock market isn’t a true measure of the nation’s financial health, but rather a measure of how optimistic investors are feeling. If you’ve been following the news, you know that the market has already been on pretty shaky ground for the last few months of Uranus in Taurus. Beyond the astrology nerd sphere, the general consensus seems to be that we’re due for another recession soon. It may or may not arrive during Jupiter in Sag, especially if investors buy into the happy vibes. No matter what comes to pass, some advice for everyone during this time (and honestly, during any time) is to enjoy any abundance that’s coming your way now, but don’t forget to save some for a rainy day. And if you’re hard on your luck at the moment, this year will be among one of the best in recent times to work some Jupiter magic to hopefully get your personal Wheel of Fortune turning back toward the heavens again.
All that cautionary stuff aside, one upside I’m personally hoping for is that Jupiter in Sagittarius will Make Multiculturalism Great Again.
Jupiter has been closing in on Saturn in the leadup to their eventual conjunction in 2020, but for the last couple of years, Jupiter has been trailing Saturn, coming into a sign that was recently weeded out/badly punished/restructured by Saturn in order to fill its cup back up with good vibes and growth. When Saturn was in Sagittarius, the sign of international adventure and globalism, many nations doubled down on xenophobic policies and literally hardened their borders against the tide of immigration (Saturn represents limits and constraints). Perhaps with Jupiter in Sagittarius, people will become more open to cultural exchange than we’ve seen in recent years, as well as boning up on their cultural competence in general. No idiot tourists allowed during Jupiter in Sag — only the cultured, smart kind.
Another thing Jupiter in Sagittarius will be intensely focused on? THE TRUTH. From the standpoint of the #MeToo movement and the Mueller investigation (both outgrowths of Jupiter in private-eye Scorpio), Jupiter in Sagittarius might merely represent the next step in the saga: wrapping up the digging and distributing the findings. Of course, there’s nothing more Sagittarian than arguing over what’s true, or what any of it actually means. It would be naive to think that hard evidence of anything will be enough to convince a majority of the public to see things from the same perspective. And yet on some level, the vibration of truth is something we’re all equipped to recognize. Search for that vibration in the months ahead.
You know what else is true about truth? That it’s possible to believe something until it’s true.
You can see this happening on a very toxic level in our society right now (for instance, certain politicians can pull flaming falsehoods out of their ass, and as long as they repeat them enough times, their followers will buy it, thus creating an alternate universe of “facts”). But if you apply this to, say, “faking it until you make it,” then there’s actually a huge positive upside to Jupiter in Sag’s earnest wish to create a world where things are generally improving and growing and getting better every day. The physical act of smiling can actually make you feel happier on the inside. And the (perhaps foolish) act of believing in a happy ending can actually help increase your odds of getting one. So believe in better, and believe yourself when you say you’re going to get there.
